    manual hub question

I have the aisin manual hubs on the frontend of my tacoma. When I lock them in my driverside front brake squeals like its on the wear tab. The pads and rotors have less than 2000 miles on them Im using ceramic brake pads. Its happens whenever the hub is locked 2wd or 4wd. When I unlock it there is no noise at any speed. Any ideas???

Welcome to the wonderful world of vehicle maintenance.  Have you ever had your hubs apart?  I might assume not.  If you haven't, and considering the amount of off-roading you do.  You should look into disassembling the hubs and inspecting them and then cleaning and regreasing them.  You may have to rent a few special tools to do so.  You will most likely need a hub socket and snap ring pliers.  Now, that being said, I have never dissasembled a Toyota hub, but I imagine, they stole "Jeep" technology (LOL Wink) when theydeveloped the TACO, so it should not be that much different.  You can ususually rent the tools needed in a kit from Checkers, or Autozone.  While you are in there, I would do both sides, and clean, inspect and regrease wheel bearings, and replace all seals.  You will just be paying yourself forward.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Also, I might add, What made you chose ceramic pads?  Generally, those are best suited to higher speed heavier vehicals.  My next question would be, Did you have the rotors turned before you installed the ceramic pads?  It you did not, you may be experiencing a seating / break-in issue with the pads.  Ceramic pads have a tendency to squeel allot more then regular stock pads because of the harder material.  The next question I ask, did you put anything on the back side of the pads like a gel that haelps prevent squeeling?  I recommend it.

    Re: manual hub question

Lets see ... No have never had hubs apart its probably time. I got the ceramics because they werent that much more expensive and they have a lifetime warranty. Yes the rotors were turned before install and I used the gel on the pads. During daily driving they make no noise at all. Its just the driver side front after I lock the hub. It sounds just like the squeal tab as it rolls then as I apply the brake it goes up in pitch and then stops.

Cool, well then, there are not allot of things it could be.  You can narrow it down to an axel u-joint going bad since they are only loaded with torque when the hubs are engaged.   Do you know if yours are greaseable?  It may be time to replace the u-joints if they are not.  How many miles are on the rigg?  Also, does the squealing go away after driving in 4 wheel drive for a while?  This would be an indicator of poor lubrication. The other thing it could be is your front transfer case to diff drive shaft.  May need to be greased and or u-joints replaced.  A great way to trouble shoot this is to take out the shaft and drive with the hubs locked, if the noise is gone then you have eliminated the cause.
