    Thanksgiving Weekend

What are we gonna run Thanksgiving Weekend!!

(Unfortunately it's very doubtful I can do any trails in October... I already have a deer hunting trip planned among other things)

I propose something down south like the Charleau Gap, Copper Creek, or Chimney Rock. I would even consider camping and doing a couple runs, but that totally depends on what's happening that weekend. Kinda far off, but I figure we can dip our toes into the water.

    Any thoughts?

Provided our country doesn't collapse into a black hole between now and Thanksgiving weekend, I would be interested in running the Gap and/ or Chimmney rock.  Camping may be an option as well, of course I'll have to run all that by the "boss", she tends to make plans around that time, but stranger things have happened, and she has wanted to hit the trail.

I see you guys are looking more of southern AZ, but what about up north? Maybe find some snow to get stuck in, Cinder Hills or something.   Just a thought... eh

Well I was looking to the south mainly because there are a lot of trails I want to do down there (and I rarely get down there) and I was looking to wheel with Craig.

Any meaningful snow is doubtful over Thanksgiving. Too early. Plus, I was thinking of doing an overnighter... while a snow run would almost certainly have to be a single day trip. The best thing to do for a snow run is stay flexible and do a short notice day trip when a storm comes through. What I'm really hoping for this winter is a low elevation front and get some desert snow wheeling... a rare treat and very beautiful. As a side note, I'm planning on doing a White Mountains trip in January for some ice fishing and snow wheeling. Let me know if you think you might wanna go.

Still sounds good, I may meet up with you guys down there.

True- never played around in anyting deep and have an itch for it.

I saw that, ice fishing sounds fun and the White Mountain area is pretty cool too.

Count me in on this one. Chim Rock or the Gap OR BOTH.

Cool Ryan. If I spend the night and do two trails, and I'm really thinking I will, perhaps Copper Creek instead of Chimney Rock? Nothing wrong with Chimney Rock but the Copper Creek Mansion trail is only like 10 miles northwest of Oracle.

Copper Creek is a scenic trail, moderately difficult (maybe 3.0-3.5 at the end) with 2 old townsites, which includes the remains of the copper creek mansion. There are at least 4 mines in the immediate area.

Sad news... Copper Creek may not be as neat a run as I thought. It seems the crown jewel of the trip, ruins of the 3 story, 20-room Sibley Mansion have been gated and locked with signs posted. As with many old townsite/mining areas it's on private land and apparently the owners were tired of people trashing the area. Another cool area off limits because too many people abused the land/remains.

I guess Chimney Rock will make a good replacement.

I might be in for chimney rock, but have to relace my tie-rods first.  Been out of the loop with school and work.  4 hours of sleep was getting to me.  I found a new job and have some more wheeling time.  I definitley had a great time with you all at Harquahala Mt though.

How are we looking for Charleau Gap on Friday, Nov 28? I'd prefer to run it with somebody who has done it before since it's an aggressive trail. Hopefully Ryan can make it.

Sounds good... so far it's me, you, and a friend with his Tacoma.

What do you think about meeting at the Bashas store on SR77 and Golder Ranch Rd at 8am? I know it's kinda early, but I need to pick up my deer meat at the butcher after the run in Tucson before they close.
